Digitizing Engineering Plans for the City of Yuma

At USA Imaging, Inc., our journey in document scanning has been shaped by projects that remind us why we do what we do. One such project from the early days still stands out: scanning engineering plans for the City of Yuma.

It started with a drive—literally. Staff from Yuma loaded up vehicle after vehicle with large-format civil and engineering plans and made the long trip from Arizona to our facility in San Diego. It wasn’t just one trip. Over the course of six months, we scanned thousands of plans, preserving decades of infrastructure, zoning, utilities, and public works documentation.

They entrusted us with fragile, irreplaceable records—blueprints, as-builts, street layouts, sewer maps, and more. Each set of drawings was carefully prepped, scanned at high resolution, and organized into a digital format for long-term storage and easy retrieval. After scanning, they returned to Yuma with their plans—digitized, protected, and ready for the future.

This project wasn’t just about converting paper to digital—it was about vision. Long before digital transformation became a buzzword, the City of Yuma understood the value of preservation and accessibility.

Even now, decades later, this story reminds us that meaningful work doesn’t start with massive systems—it starts with trust, dedication, and doing things the right way.
